Minister Barr: CBR 2015-16 summer of cricket to kick off with PM XI at Manuka

The ACT’s next summer of cricket will begin on 23 October 2015 with the PM’s XI taking on World Cup runners up New Zealand at Manuka Oval.
The match up will be Australia’s first taste of international cricket for the season, with the Black Caps facing the Australian side in the first test match in Brisbane on November 5.
Bringing world-class sporting events to Canberra has been a key goal for the ACT government – and I have been working hard as a Minister on our relationship with Cricket Australia to ensure that Canberra is in the mix for regular games.
The ACT Government will also seek to use the visit of the Black Caps to promote the CBR region to the New Zealand market, and will invite a number dignitaries to Canberra for the match.
Canberrans will be spoilt this summer, with world class cricketers like Brendan McCullum testing their skills at Manuka Oval. Later in the summer, we will also host an international one-day match between World Champions Australia and India – with the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Starc and Virat Kohli coming to the capital.
It’s important for Canberra to continue attracting world class entertainment. These cricket matches are broadcast to a huge audience – promoting Canberra interstate and around the world. This schedule follows on from 2014-15, where we saw the South African team take on Australia, as well as three ICC world Cup matches.
I would encourage Canberrans to get out to Manuka Oval for both the PM XI match and the international one-day match later in the summer.
