The ACT’s unemployment rate has fallen again to 3.4 per cent in October – and is the lowest of any jurisdiction in the country.
This further demonstrates the strength of the ACT economy. We needed to diversify our economy to reduce our reliance on the federal government for jobs. Despite years of Liberal cuts, the ACT continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country because we invested in our economy to weather the storm. In the past year, 4,500 jobs have been created in the ACT.
According to the ANZ ‘Stateometer’ released yesterday, the ACT’s economy continues to be the fastest growing economy in the country.
This government will continue prioritising jobs and the protection of our economy. This is what Canberrans expect from their government. We have a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects, including the city wide light rail network, which will deliver thousands of jobs over the next decade. Projects such as this also encourage investment in our city. Some of the biggest multinational companies in the world are investing in stage one of the light rail project.
While these are good results for Canberra, there is still more work to be done. My team is committed to ensuring we do everything we can to grow our economy, create more jobs and provide confidence to our community.
