The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues (28-30 October 2016) attracts music fans from far and wide. Now in its 27th year, the festival features over 100 established and emerging musicians and 80 concerts alongside local food and wine – all just 2.5 hours from Melbourne.
Those in town for the festival can also enjoy award-winning wines, an abundance of fresh regional produce and a landscape of valleys, rivers and streams. Wangaratta’s vibrant yet compact city centre offers diverse shopping, a revitalised art precinct, parks and gardens, and is easy to navigate on foot. This year’s festival brings even more colour to the streets with live art events and a family-friendly stage at King George Gardens – the perfect place to relax soak in the sounds. Australia’s most prestigious jazz awards, the National Jazz Awards 2016 will be presented at the festival, this year with a focus on the saxophone.
Bullawah Cultural TrailVisitors can explore the newly opened 2.4 kilometre Bullawah Cultural Trail which wind along the Ovens River. The shared trail was created to celebrate and share the ancient stories, knowledge and skills of the local Indigenous people. The trail begins at Apex Park and showcases sculptures and public art, Indigenous plantings and an Elders Rock with interpretive signs along the way.
