What's On

Time spent outdoors can be deeply rewarding so it’s no wonder that many of us are drawn to its beauty and inspired to immortalize those moments forever. Unfortunately, many of those attempts don’t do any justice to Mother Nature’s beauty. Photographs are often underwhelming and disappointing, and failed attempts can be quite discouraging. So, if you love photography but keep struggling with producing good images, here are some useful pieces of advice to help you improve.

Get the right equipment

The first step towards truly exceptional photographs is a good-quality camera and lenses. This means you’ll be able to choose from a wide range of options in different situations and conditions, and the lens should make even the smallest of details clearly visible in your photos. The right camera is of great help because it does most of the work for you – you needn’t worry about focus, symmetry adjustment or lighting, all of which are typically a problem for an amateur photographer.

It’s certainly possible to take amazing photos using a smartphone. Some models have excellent cameras and an astonishingly wide scope of options. Additionally, you can find a weather-proof camera bag very useful as it will hold your extra batteries and additional lenses. A tripod can help as well and last, but not least, you'll need the right wardrobe. Sometimes, trying to catch a perfect moment in nature takes a lot of time out in the open, so you’ll benefit from a great rain jacket, hat, hiking boots and comfortable socks.

Improve your skills

Even with the best gear, the final product will still largely depend on your own skills. If you feel you lack experience or the necessary skills to produce the photos you want, consider taking various photography courses that are designed to make you more accomplished in photography. Photography includes a great variety of techniques and genres, which is why it’s essential you have access to all if you want to be masterful. Whatever skills you may already have, there’s always room for education and improvement.

Explore the nature

There's so much beauty and wonder in nature which means you have a huge field of work to explore. It may mean you'll need to take a trip to Africa, hike through a rainforest or climb up a mountain. But, even if you can't afford these trips, there's plenty of scenery to work on close to your home. Once you focus your attention on your immediate natural surroundings, you’ll be surprised what richness you can find in simple landscapes. It’s not about shooting exotic animals or plants, but rather finding wonder in the simplest details such as the colour of the sunset, flowers and the sparkling shades of lakes and rivers.

Capture the moments all year round

There’s something magical in every season allowing photographers to capture moments all year round. Whereas spring and summer reveal an abundance of colours, autumn lets you capture the warmer and more vibrant shades of nature in softer light, often accompanied by mysterious mists that can’t be found during other seasons.

During shorter winter days, it's somewhat easier to capture sunrises and sunsets as you don't have to get up too early or stay up late. Everything happens within just a few hours. Moreover, a sparkling white coat of snow creates an entirely different landscape strikingly beautiful in its own way. Finally, you can immortalise your favourite scenery by taking a series of photos during all four seasons showcasing its unique and ever-changing beauty.

Capturing amazing moments in nature is very satisfying, offering you a great opportunity to spend time outdoors while producing amazing photographs. This can be a fantastic and fulfilling hobby, so improving your skills can only bring you more joy. Whether you’re a landscape photographer or love shooting animals and plants, these tips will surely help you make progress.
