Melbourne has been confirmed as the host city for the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards in 2017.

This annual ranking of the world’s best restaurants was first published in 2002 and has since become the most reputable restaurant ranking in the world. The award ceremony has historically been held in London, the announcement makes Melbourne the second only city outside of London to hold the awards program.

Tourism Australia and Visit Victoria are working in partnership with the World’s 50 Best team to create a sensational program of culinary events in Melbourne in 2017.

The events will showcase Melbourne’s culinary and events expertise as well as the diversity of food and wine settings and experiences in regional Victoria.

Melbourne’s Attica is Australia’s only top 50 restaurant on the list, and Brae, located two and half hour’s drive from Melbourne, has moved up from number 87 to number 65  in the top 100.

The announcement was made by William Drew, Group Editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants alongside Tourism Australia Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Ronson at the Chefs’ Feast, a dinner for the world’s best chefs and restaurateurs, ahead of tomorrow’s 2016 edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards, held in New York.

The Melbourne program will take place mid-2017 and events will include a chef’s feast; a main awards ceremony; and touring programs around Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The 800 invited guests and will be made up of chefs, industry and top international food and wine media and influencers.
