Melbourne foodies and visitors are invited to share in the excitement of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards at the world’s first public countdown and screening of the prestigious event at Federation Square. on Wednesday 5 April.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards countdown and live screening is free and open to everyone. A picnic-themed Federation Square will play host to an evening of entertainment, featuring comedians from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (29 March – 23 April), live music curated by Music Victoria, and dinner options from some of the city’s best food trucks – all serving up Victorian produce.
Melbourne is the third international city to host The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, following in the footsteps of London and New York. Brought to Australia by Tourism Australia in partnership with Visit Victoria, the week-long events program includes the main gala awards (held at the Royal Exhibition Building on 5 April), ticketed public events, and touring options around regional Victoria for invited chefs and international media.
Everyone is invited to grab a patch of astro-turf and get comfortable for a night of food, music and comedy in the lead up to the 8pm live-stream of what is known as the ‘Culinary Oscars’ – The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards.
Program times for the Live-Site in Federation Square:
5.30pm – food trucks begin serving up dinner and the public are invited to get comfortable, picnic-style.6.30pm – live site program begins: comedians, music, food Q&As, competitions and giveaways.8.00pm – count down of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards is live-streamed on the big screen at Federation Square9.15pm – the awards conclude.
