Accor to welcome new Mercure in the nation’s capital

MERCURE Canberra Belconnen NOW TAKING BOOKINGS

Canberra’s accommodation sector is set for a boost following an announcement from Australia’s largest hotel operator, Accor, in partnership with hotel owners, Canberra Labor Club, that a new-build Mercure hotel is gearing up to open in the nation’s capital and is now taking bookings.

The five-storey, 125 room, Mercure Canberra Belconnen is currently under development at the Canberra Labor Club precinct on Cameron Avenue.

The internationally branded midscale hotel will adjoin the Club’s precinct, accessible via a connecting walkway, allowing guests easy access to all food & beverage, and entertainment facilities within the club.

The sophisticated guestrooms will each include plush beds, relaxed workstations, Smart TVs, Chromecast and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel will also feature gym facilities, laundry facilities, a spacious lobby lounge, food & beverage outlets, event & conferencing spaces and onsite parking. Designed by May + Russell Architects, the hotel design draws inspiration from the local environment by using colours and textures with a natural undertone while also drawing from some of the vibrant colours within the surrounding landscape.

Simon McGrath, Accor Pacific’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for over 400 hotels in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia and Hawaii, says, “All eyes are on the nation’s capital at the moment, which is experiencing a renewed interest amongst investors and developers.

“We’re delighted to bring the Mercure brand to Belconnen in partnership with Canberra Labor Club. Accor enjoy partnering with clubs by adding an accommodation offering to their already successful business, by enhancing the existing club’s facilities to the benefit of its members, and also attracting new business and leisure guests.

“We are confident that the Mercure hotel will provide much-needed new hotel supply for Canberra and we look forward to welcoming the first guests to Mercure Canberra Belconnen,” concluded Mr McGrath.

Canberra Labor Club’s Chief Executive, Arthur Roufogalis, says “We are really excited to be opening Mercure Canberra Belconnen and are confident the hotel will add to the vibrance of the Belconnen district with premium accommodation and a large range of facilities including various cafes & bars both in the hotel and the Canberra Labor Club.”

Mercure Canberra Belconnen is located in the town centre of Belconnen, just 8km from the Canberra CBD, a short stroll from Westfield Belconnen, key government offices and is located within close proximity to the Belconnen business district, Calvary Hospital, University of Canberra, as well as the AIS and GIO Stadium. The transport Canberra bus network is located at the hotel’s doorstep offering easy access to Canberra’s famous cultural attractions, and just a short 20-minute drive from Canberra Airport.

Mercure Canberra Belconnen is located at 59 Cameron Avenue Belconnen, CANBERRA 2617.
