Australia v West Indies Series Preview
Australia will host West Indies in a three match Test series that is set to get underway on December 10th. The Aussies, who lost the Ashes to England earlier this year, will be without fast bowler Mitchell Starc after he was ruled out of the series with a broken foot. The West Indies are no slouches however and could challenge the Aussies if they play to their full potential.
At the time of writing, Australia are red-hot favourites for victory and are priced at below even money with Coral. The Wallabies will be smarming from their embarrassing Ashes defeat and will be looking to bounce back and show their home supporters exactly what they are made of. Punters will be backing Australia but must be wary of the threat that the West Indies pose, especially if veterans Darren Sammy and Shivnarine Chanderpaul can regain their best form.
The first Test match will be held in Hobart at the Bellerive Oval, which is home to the Tasmanian Tigers and the Hobart Hurricanes. Australia will be raring to go and will be looking for a fast start in front of their home fans, especially after losing Starc. If they win the toss, the pitch should be perfect for batting and the Wallabies are more than capable of racking up an imposing total with the bat.
After this, the second Test will get underway on December 26th and will take place in Melbourne at the MCG. Widely regarded as the home of Australian cricket, the Wallabies will be looking for a second successive victory – a result that would ensure they kept their hands on the Frank Worrell Trophy.
With the likes of David Warner, Steve Smith and Aaron Finch in the side, Australia have plenty of firepower and could dominate the series with the bat. Nearer to the time, Coral will provide plenty of further information, news and odds on the upcoming Test series and you can back any of these players to finish as the highest scoring batsman. In the meantime, Coral have a comprehensive test match cricket list and you can check this out whilst you await the beginning of this series.
In the final match of the series, Sydney will host Australia’s first home cricket contest of 2016. If it’s required, there is bound to be an impressive atmosphere across the city but the Indies will be keen to spoil the party. The Wallabies will be looking for a clean sweep in order to reassert themselves at the top of world cricket but the Indies, who are currently eighth in the Test rankings, could climb up the leaderboard with a couple of impressive performances.
While Australia will fancy their chances of success, the West Indies shouldn’t be overlooked. If their veterans perform, they will stand a great chance of defying the odds and enjoying a decent series. However, all signs point to a Wallabies success despite the injury to Starc. Australia have one of the best Test sides in the world and should record a whitewash victory if they perform at their very best.
