Today the ACT Legislative Assembly passed the 2019-20 Budget, allowing the Government to get on with delivering more services and infrastructure to meet our community’s needs in the years ahead.
The Budget reflects want Canberrans want: an inclusive, progressive, connected community. Now more than ever, it is essential we are standing up for these values in our words and actions.
The Budget shows what we stand for, and what the guarantee of a Labor Government is to Canberra: protecting our jobs and essential services from cutbacks and privatisation.
We are hiring more doctors, nurses, teachers, paramedics, police and other essential services Canberrans rely on. We are delivering more walk-in centres to every region because we understand the value of free healthcare for families.
We are giving every Canberra child a great start through early childhood education and free laptops, so no one is left behind.
We are taking light rail to Woden.
Canberra is one of the fastest growing communities in Australia, so we have to invest now to make sure our hospitals and healthcare centres, our schools, social infrastructure and transport networks are ready in the new decade.
We are also making a big investment in people – growing early intervention and social services to help tackle the causes of stubborn disadvantage and see Canberra continue becoming even more inclusive.
We are building for Canberra’s future and using the ACT Budget to do it because we know a strong community and a liveable city are what matter most. This is what Labor stands for; it is our guarantee to the Canberra community.
